Use by Authors
Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscripts. The use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude, or others) to assist in writing, editing, data analysis, or image creation must be clearly disclosed in the Methods or Acknowledgment section.
AI tools cannot be credited as authors. All AI-assisted content must be reviewed and verified by the authors for accuracy, originality, and ethical compliance.
Disclosure Requirements
Requires Disclosure:
Use of large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or similar tools for drafting, paraphrasing, summarizing, or generating text.
Does Not Require Disclosure:
Use of basic tools such as grammar and spelling checkers (e.g., Grammarly), reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley), or standard text editors and word processors (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs).
Must Be Described in Methods
If AI tools or algorithms are used as part of the research process itself (e.g., data analysis, AI-assisted imaging, or statistical modeling), their use must be fully described in the Methods section, including the name, version, developer, and technical specifications of the AI application.
Example Disclosure:
Statement: During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication.
Ethical Use
AI tools must not be used to fabricate, manipulate, or falsify data, images, or references. Authors must ensure that all AI-generated material is free from plagiarism, bias, and factual errors. Any AI-generated figure or image must be clearly identified as such.
Use by Reviewers and Editors
Reviewers and editors must not use public AI tools to summarize, review, or assess manuscripts in order to maintain confidentiality.
Secure institutional AI tools may be used for editorial management, plagiarism detection, or language checking under strict privacy standards.
Editorial Action
Manuscripts with undisclosed or unethical AI use may be rejected or retracted in accordance with publication ethics guidelines.
Policy Updates
This policy will be reviewed and updated regularly as AI technologies and international publication standards evolve.
This policy follows the recommendations of COPE, ICMJE, and WAME on the responsible use of Generative AI in scientific publishing.
